A homeopath among poets, singers, and everyday folk…
Day to day, I work as a holistic healthcare practitioner. It is a privilege to accompany people from all walks of life on their journey toward better health — whatever that may mean for them. For me personally, roots and authenticity are one essential part of staying healthy.
But to backtrack a little. Like many readers, I grew up immersed in the patterned traditions of music, folksong, cynghanedd, composition, recitation, and storytelling. In my area, these were collectively known as ‘y pethe’. This literally and somewhat misleadingly translates as ‘things’ or 'matter,' though what it truly refers to is inclusive of the immaterial, intangible elements that colour life in rich, meaningful ways: energy or awen or open-mindedness, if you may. Seen through the lens of totality rather than division, these tenets of curiosity can only enrich and connect the arts and sciences.
I was also shown how to tune in to the natural world, with its subtle repetitions and seasonal rhythms. That early foundation in close attention continues to inform all of my creative work.
Later, while studying for a degree in Music at the University of York, I was introduced to a medicine that depends in part on pattern recognition, combined with a deep, sound philosophy. In time, I qualified as a professional homeopath myself. Two decades later, my clinic is lively and almost always full.
